Watch President Benigno Aquino address the 2010 Gold Standard Awards ceremony

His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Philippines

Video message presented during the awards ceremony at the
Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong Kong on January 20, 2011

My warmest greetings to PublicAffairsAsia on the occasion of this year’s Gold Standard Awards. Let me say at the outset that I am humbled and grateful to be conferred the Gold Standard Award for Political Communications. I am also honored to be included in your
distinguished roster together with tonight’s awardees.

I wish I were with you tonight, but I had to attend to pressing matters here in Manila. I accept this award on behalf of my fellow workers in government and our people, for they are with me in advancing the culture of transparency, integrity, and reorienting the political environment
that has long afflicted the Filipino people. In many ways,
we are forging a new era and bringing in the Daylight.

We pursue this thrust because my countrymen expect nothing less. Their welfare and the opportunity to lead better lives depend on our ability to forge a national consensus. Thus, I thank Public Affairs Asia for affirming our message: if there is no corruption, there will be no poverty. It is a message inspired by the Filipino people themselves, and on that basis, we are committed to serving the people and rebuilding our country.

Thank you and good evening.
